Greenwood Cup Final Weekend
The Final weekend of the Greenwood Cup for 2024 took place at Maraenui Golf Club on Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th November.
The first 2 rounds took place under grey and rainy skies with the teams looking to catch Onga Onga & Hastings who went undefeated after weekend #1.
The morning saw the battle of the neighbours with Hastings against Hawkes Bay & Napier against Maraenui. Onga Onga were seeking to keep on their winning ways against Karamu & Dannevirke played Central HB.
Round #4 Results:
Dannevirke bt Central HB 10-0
Onga Onga bt Karamu 8.5-1.5
Hawkes Bay bt Hastings 5.5-4.5
Napier bt Maraenui 7.5 – 2.5
This saw Onga Onga now the only defeated team with Hastings in 2nd with 1 loss.
The afternoon saw some crunch matches with Napier vs Hawkes Bay, Dannevirke vs Karamu, Hastings vs Maraenui & Onga Onga vs Central HB.
Round #5 Results:
Dannevirke bt Karamu 9-1
Napier & Hawkes Bay 5-5 draw
Hastings bt Maraenui 9-1
Onga Onga bt Central HB 8-2
This left Onga Onga atop the leaderboard with 2 rounds remaining.
The final day saw Onga Onga looking to keep winning and the trophy would be there’s for 2024. Hastings were looking to make the final round in the afternoon against Onga Onga be the deciding factor.
Round #6 Results:
Onga Onga bt Napier 5.5-4.5
Hastings & Dannevirke 5-5 draw
Maraenui bt Karamu 9-1
Hawkes Bay bt Central HB 8.5-1.5
The hard fought victory for Onga Onga and a draw for Hastings meant that Onga Onga had an unassailable lead going into the last round against Hastings.
The afternoon round saw teams looking to finish as high up the table as possible with Onga Onga already claiming the trophy for 2024.

Hastings bt Onga Onga 7-3
Dannevirke bt Napier 6-4
Hawkes Bay bt Karamu 10-0
Maraenui bt Central HB 8.5-1.5
The Radonich Trophy was also claimed by Onga Onga being the highest placed ‘country’ club.
