2022 Golf NZ Women's Masters Report

NZ Women’s Masters In Otago

The 2022 NZ Women’s Masters was held in Otago this year, played at the Alexandra Golf Course from the 1/3 of April.

After a number of Trials the top four Women over 40 years of age were chosen to represent the Hawke’s Bay Poverty Bay (HBPB) region.

The Team in order were:

Rahira Ellison

Martha Manaena

Janie Field

Kathy Olsen

The Format of the Tournament is the best three Gross Stableford scores out of the four players count, that are added up over the four rounds.

This year Waikato lead from the first day, winning convincingly by at least 10 points, with North Harbour coming second, and a very popular Otago third.

HBPB came in at ninth out of fourteen regions, which was a few placings better than the previous year.

It was a  very testing course; some long Par 4’s, tight tree lined Fairways and dreadful Otago tussock as the Rough.

It was definitely a course you needed to play a few times to navigate landing zones and to familiarise yourself with the slopey Greens.

The weather was kind except for early morning fog which delayed play for an hour on one occasion.

The competition and atmosphere became electric with the last day approaching.

There were only a couple of points between six teams, in the middle order, including HBPB.

The girls all had a wonderful time and came away yet again learning about themselves and reinforcing Golf remains a difficult sport to play consistently well.
