Shand Cup & Sybil Green Salver
The Shand Cup & Sybil Green Salver was held @ Wanganui Golf Club last weekend.
The teams that represented Hawkes Bay over the weekend were:
Ladies: Ellen Ball, Samantha Carroll, Trish McBride, Fiona Ellis, Claire Choi, Martha Manaena, Janie Field and Tessa McDonald.
Masters Men: Waka Donnolly, Gary Campbell, Glen Sloan, Dave Wilkinson, Mark Tasker and Steffan Hepburn
Men: Zack Swanwick, Brad Truesdale, Killian Heather, Tyson Tawera, Stuart Duff, Jeff Tuoro, Ben Swinburne and Mako Thompson.
The players were greeted with some less than favorable weather conditions on Saturday with it being windy and raining.
In the morning rounds the Ladies got off to a solid start with a 4-4 Draw against the hosts Manawatu/Wanganui. The Men did not fair so well however with a 7-1 loss to a very strong Wellington Side. The Men’s Masters team came out 3.5-2.5 victors over Taranaki to end the morning matches.
In the afternoon still in some windy and rainy conditions the Men’s Masters team narrowly went down to the hosts Manawatu/Wanganui 3.5-2.5. The Ladies team unfortunately could not build on their solid start going down to Wellington 6-2. The Men did not fair any better also going down to Taranaki 6-2.
Sunday saw the wind hang around for another tough round. The Masters Men had another narrow loss this time to Wellington 3.5-2.5. The Ladies finished off their weekend with a solid 5.5-2.5 Win over Taranaki. The Men unfortunately did not fair so well going down to the hosts Manawatu/Wanganui 6-2.
The overall standings for the weekend saw the Masters Men in 3rd place. The Ladies came in 3rd on a countback and the Men came in 4th.
This was a great weekend for the all the players to get some match play practice with the NZ Interprovincials fast approaching back in Hawkes Bay with the Men’s at Hastings Golf Club and the Ladies at Maraenui Golf Club at the end of November.
