Men's & Women's NZ Inter Provincials

The Men’s and Women’s Inter Provincials took place at Omanu & Tauranga Golf Clubs a couple of weeks ago. This unique format saw both Women’s and Men’s teams swapping between the 2 venues with the Final days play taking place at Tauranga Golf Club for both.

Rounds 1 and 2 saw the Women get off to a winning start winning 2/2 with a 4-1 win against Aorangi & a 5-0 resounding victory against Wellington. The Men had a much tougher start with a narrow 3-2 loss to Canterbury but fought back in the afternoon with a 3-2 win against Waikato.

Rounds 3 and 4 was a much tougher time for the Women unfortunately going down 3.5-1.5 against Canterbury & another loss in the afternoon 4-1 to Taranaki. The Men only had 1 that day but made the most of it with a 3.5-1.5 win against Southland.

Rounds 5 & 6 saw both teams looking to keep winning to hopefully keep their playoff hopes alive. Unfortunately this was not the case for the Women who lost to neighbours Manawatu/Wanganui 4-1 and then another narrow loss 3-2 against Otago. The Men had a solid win in the morning 4-1 against Tasman. The afternoon saw them against a strong Auckland team. The team needed to keep on winning but unfortunately narrowly lost 3-2.

Round 7 was the last one before the Semi-finals with unfortunately the Women out of the running and the Men needing a lot to go their way to keep their hopes alive. The Women finished their week off with a hard fought narrow 3-2 loss to Otago. The Men needing a win to have a slim chance unfortunately could not do so narrowly losing to Taranaki 3-2.

The Men’s winners were the local team Bay of Plenty who beat Auckland 3.5-1.5.

The Women’s winners were Auckland who beat their neighbors North Harbour 3-2.
