Junior Boys & Girls NZ Inter Provincials

The Junior Boys & Girls Inter Provincials took place at Cambridge & Rotorua Golf Clubs earlier this month.

The Junior Girls teams consisted of the following players:

Kayla Van De Ven (Napier GC)

Ruby Jarvis (Hastings GC)

Devon Henare (Napier GC)

Miller Henare (Napier GC)

Verity Adsett (Napier GC)

Reserve: Niamh McGillicuddy (Hastings GC)

The Boys team consisted of the following players:

Saul Barker (Napier GC)

Cordell Henare (Napier GC)

Rueben Harris (Onga Onga GC)

Zach Taylor (Napier GC)

Luke Jarvis (Hastings GC)

Leo Dixon (Hastings GC)

Harry Sciascia (Porangahau GC)

Day 1 saw The Girls played against Canterbury in the morning and it was a tough battle with Canterbury coming away the winners 5-1. Unfortunately the afternoon was the same against North Harbour going down 5-1 as well.

The Boys meanwhile had a hard fought 3-3 draw with Aorangi/Southland in the morning and then in the afternoon Otago were too strong winning 4.5-0.5.

Day 2 saw both the Girls & Boys only play 1 round in the morning with a break in the afternoon. The Girls had a solid 4 – 2 win against Waikato to see them sit 3rd in their pool after 3 rounds. The Boys had another hard fought 3 – 3 draw against neighbors Manawatu/Wanganui which sees them sitting 4th in their pool after 3 rounds.

Day 3 saw bad weather affect play but both teams did get some play. The Girls had a 3 – 3 draw against Bay of Plenty in Round 4. With Round 5 being abandoned this saw the Girls play against Wellington on the final morning in a playoff for 5th/6th place. The Girls finished with an oustanding 4-2 win to come in 5th place for the week.

The Boys manaegd to get both their rounds in on day 3 with a great 4.5 – 1.5 win against North Harbour in the morning. They followed up the morning form with a 4-2 win against Canterbury in the afternoon. This saw the Boys finish 3rd in their pool to the play against Waikato for 5th/6th. After a tight battle Waikato unfortunately came away the victors 4.5 – 1.5 to see the team finish in 6th place.
