Greenwood Cup Weekend #1
The 1st weekend of the Greenwood Cup took place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th of October. The weekend was co-hosted by Karamu and Onga Onga Golf Clubs with the teams split in two for the weekend.
Day #1 saw the teams play 2 rounds under beautiful blue skies at both Onga Onga & Karamu. Round #1 in the morning saw all teams looking at starting the weekend with a win. Hastings looking to defend their title defeated neighbors Hawkes Bay 7-3. Onga Onga defeated Dannevirke 8-2 on their home track. Maraenui got off to a solid start defeating rivals Napier 6-4. Hosts Karamu beat Central HB 6-4 to round of the mornings play.
Round #2 in the afternoon saw the teams back at it. Napier got a resounding 10-0 win against Central HB. Maraenui continued their winning form 8-2 against Karamu to stay atop the leaderboard. Hastings also continued to look strong with a 7.5-2.5 win against Dannevirke. Onga Onga also put themselves in prime position with a 6.5-3.5 win over Hawkes Bay.
Day #2 on Sunday only saw the teams play 1 round in the morning. Onga Onga, Maraenui and Hastings all looking to go undefeated for the weekend. Maraenui continued their strong form defeating Central HB 8.5-1.5. Napier defeated Karamu 8-2 to stay 1 win behind the leaders. Hawkes Bay beat Dannevirke to also sit 1 win behind. Onga Onga had a tight tussle with Hastings. Onga Onga used home field advantage to come away 5.5-4.5 winners.
At the end of weekend 1 that leaves Maraenui & Onga Onga as the only undefeated teams. With Hastings and Napier just 1 win behind.
